If you’re thinking “what the heck is Feldenkrais?”, you’re probably not alone. I’d heard of it many years ago but didn’t know much about it. I’ve known that it was available locally for perhaps a decade, but many years later, I’m happy to be talking about it in the Niagara Guide 🙂

Fariya Doctor has been helping people with the Feldenkrais Method® since 2004. Feldenkrais is a form of movement therapy that combines gentle movements and focused attention to help people become aware of how they move, and how they can move better. This method can help you move more easily, increase your range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination. Perhaps most importantly, moving better can lead to less pain and discomfort that may be caused or increased by poor movement habits.

Fariya refers to herself as a “movement detective”, identifying “glitches” in people’s movement habits, and helping them fix and adopt better postural and movement patterns. In addition to her Feldenkrais qualifications, Fariya is also a Registered Massage Therapist and a Buteyko instructor.

In case you’re now thinking “what the heck is Buteyko?”, it’s an incredible method that helps people learn how to breathe more effectively and efficiently. The Buteyko breathing technique can help people improve health, increase energy, and help improve a variety of breathing issues such as sleep apnea, asthma, and rhinitis. Better breathing is also associated with reductions in anxiety, depression, and other emotional disturbances.

Now that you know a little bit more about Feldenkrais and Buteyko, you may be inclined to check out what Fariya has to offer. You can find more information about her clinic by clicking this link.

Oh yeah – Fariya’s also a member of BNI Champagne Chapter in St. Catharines, one of Niagara’s best networking groups 🙂
