Every event you attend creates waste. Lots of waste. Some of it’s recyclable. Some of it is compostable. Some of it is destined for the landfill, but all too often everything’s mixed together and just thrown out.
The Eco-Defenders are a volunteer organization that helps event organizers by sorting waste properly. Organics and recyclables are diverted from landfill, and only the waste that can’t be dealt with in other ways is disposed of. This helps keep Niagara clean and helps reduce the environmental impact of local events.
This is a seriously determined group of volunteers. Sorting waste isn’t that hard, but it’s a dirty job. Still, when the end result of their work is a cleaner environment, it’s not hard to see why the Eco-Defenders enjoy what they do.
